While there is still more work to be done on the issue of classroom size, this referendum should ease concerns some grades may be experiencing as early as next school year.
More STEM capable classrooms provide the flexibility our students, teachers and administration need to continue to offer STEM based electives.
The district will be adding:
- TWO NEW classrooms at A. W. Roberts - 1 STEM classroom (size, extra large) & 1 regular classroom by converting the gym lockers into classrooms.
- TWO NEW, ONE enhanced classroom at Salt Brook - 1 existing classroom renovated to a STEM space & 2 NEW small group classrooms by converting the gym lockers into classrooms.
- TWO NEW classrooms at the Middle School - 1 new class room along a new hallway from the MS classrooms to the MS gym (which will save a HUGE walk around for students) & 1 resource room by converting the science storage closet.
- EIGHT more capable and TWO NEW classrooms at the High School - STEM wing will renovate 4 classrooms and storage into 5 classrooms, including a state of the art graphic arts room, a larger industrial arts room, a universal lab and 2 new STEM classrooms. 1 new Universal Lab by converting teacher’s lounge and 1 new resource room by converting the science storage area. Additionally, the New Media center can be configured into a meeting room so a class can meet there and not disturb the entire library. Our students, teachers and administration alike want a STEM approach even for traditional subjects like drawing and shop and these new spaces are NECESSARY to ensure that the school can offer the classes our children need to complete their required classes for graduation.
While there is still more work to be done on the issue of classroom size, this referendum should ease concerns some grades may be experiencing as early as next school year.
